Why is it that only males become bald.

ANS 1 . Male pattern baldness occurs due to an allelle in the X chromosome - Because women have 2 x chromsomes if they get the allelle in one chromosome the effect can be "masked" by the other. In men who only have one x chromosome as soon as they inherit the allelle the effect cannot be masked.
ANS 2. Women's hair does thin, but males are affected with male pattern baldness which is genetic ( sex-linked and transmissible by the female parents) and more noticeable. Some of the hair growth remedies are able to reduce the baldness but for many, only a hair plug transplant will be successful. Men usually develop a bald cap (over the crown of the head). Women lose about 1/3 of the hair follicles as they age (average number is around 120,000 t0 150,000) but they have longer hair usually and the thinning is not so noticeable. No diet or herbal medication has been shown to be effective in preventing baldness.
ANS 3. Men go bald due to a genetically inherited condition called male-pattern baldness which is not found in women. This condition results in high amounts of dihydrotestostrene (DHT) that disrupts normal growth patterns of hair follicles, causing them to die. Men also have sebum that clogs the pores thus damaging the hair follicles.
